Breaking Records: Improving the Efficiency of Solar Panels
The U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory has produced a solar cell with a record breaking 39.5% efficiency rating. Made of very thin layers, it’s part of research into what’s known as ‘quantum well’ solar cells. As energy prices rise, we look forward to seeing more state of the art technology hit the market in the next few years. Although this technology has traditionally been expensive, NREL are working toward creating a more economic solar technology for different applications.
